Our Journey
The seeds of GoodWerk Counseling took root back in 2016 in New York City where Dr. Alfonso witnessed firsthand the systematic challenges inhibiting people of color from seeking and receiving quality care.
-
Driven by the transformative power and resonance of culturally responsive counseling, along with a commitment to make a meaningful lasting impact, he began realizing his aspirations to inspire and create change within the field of mental health.
Fast forward to January 2022, amid the isolation of a global pandemic, we seized the moment to reimagine the practice, transforming it into GoodWerk—a collective focused on fostering empathy and understanding for the betterment of people and communities of color.
From our beginnings in a small office in New York, we have grown and broadened our reach to serve individuals, couples, families, and organizations across New York, New Jersey and Florida. We received profound appreciation from our clients and have been recognized as a Minority Business Enterprise in New York and New Jersey—a testament to our unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion.
At GoodWerk, we measure our success by the experiences and achievements of those we serve, and we wholeheartedly believe that when they rise, we all rise.
As compassionate professionals, we're guided by the principles of culturally responsive and quality care. Our emphasis on shared responsibility and collective prosperity leads to a more inclusive and thriving community. We're committed to validating our clients' and those who mirror our own backgrounds and experiences, refusing to marginalize or minimize them. We strive to create a haven of safety where every voice is heard and every story matters.
We also know that our journey is only just beginning. Our mission—to uplift, empower, and serve those marginalized and underserved communities—is the compass that guides our path toward our north star of a world without margins where everyone receives the care and support they want and need.
